2022 Acura MDX Interior– Today Acura released a Tron-style teaser image and video showing the interior of the new MDX 2022, which will go on sale early next year. The fourth generation of the three-line SUV will launch on October 14, and Acura says it will be the most premium and performance-focused MDX in its history. This over-produced illustration seems to support that claim.
For now, Acura isn’t overly open with information but says that the new SUV’s dashboard is wider and lower, wrapped in leather, and trimmed in exposed porous wood. Like RDX and TLX, it will have a very large single infotainment screen, which Acura calls “ultrawide” without giving it any dimensions. This appears to be the largest in the brand’s lineup and will be controlled with a touchpad on the console.
MDX will also feature Acura’s first digital meter cluster, which will have two configurations, and a 25-speaker ELS Studio 3D premium audio system with integrated LED ambient lighting. Its new sports seats will be warmed and cooled and offer a variety of massage arrangements. The perforated leather with contrasting stitching and piping will cover all three rows. Acura calls the intricate designs sewn into the upholstery “curved quilting”.
There is seating for seven people; However, the second-row seats appear to be split 40/20/40, so we suspect the middle can be removed, leaving two captain seats behind and improving third-row access. The SUV’s conventional shifters have been replaced with push-button units, and a three-spoke steering wheel is used in conjunction with the TLX. We can also see a panoramic sunroof, aluminum speaker grille, and several drive settings including Normal, Sport, and Individual.
Consistently being Acura’s best-selling model, the MDX accounts for nearly a third of its sales, so the Honda luxury brand often reiterates its biggest SUV. We recently published an exterior spy image of the SUV, which Acura says will become the brand’s new flagship. In the picture, it looks somewhat larger than the current model and is expected to share at least one of its machines with the recently introduced TLX 2021. The 355-hp 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6 found in the Type S sedan’s performance variant is a definite bet for the SUV, which is now powered exclusively by a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V-6 that produces 290 hp. The MDX is also expected to get an updated version of the Acura SH-AWD system and a 10-speed automatic transmission. Hybrid models might follow the path.
2022 Acura MDX Exterior Features
With the MDX 2022, Acura designers are striving to increase the proportion of SUVs. A new platform supplies a three-inch wheelbase stretch, and by moving the cabin and greenhouse further back, Acura says it has increased the SUV’s dashboard-to-axle ratio by six inches.
The blunt front style combined with the long, flat hood reduces the amount of front overhang and visual weight over the front wheels, while the long, tapered tail of the SUV adds to the elegance and balance of the design. Acura’s Diamond Pentagon three-dimensional grille dominates the front style, flanked by four-element Jewel Eye LED headlamps. The distinctive chicane pattern daytime running lights and LED taillights quickly identify the MDX as Acura, day or night.
Acura also says that the new MDX is wider and lower than the vehicle it replaces, an impression amplified by the available 21-inch aluminum-alloy wheels that are likely to be produced.
2022 Acura MDX Security
Acura says it’s building the new MDX around the architecture of the next-generation ACE vehicle, which absorbs and deflects as much crash energy as possible. The MDX also gets the same unique “catcher’s mitt” front airbag technology found on the TLX 2021 sedan.
The automaker’s collection of advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS) is also receiving upgrades for use on the MDX 2022. Called AcuraWatch, this package benefits from improved lane maintenance assistance technology, improved adaptive cruise control operations, and a new traffic jam assistance system. which helps reduce stress in heavy stop-and-go traffic.
The new Low-Speed Braking Control System aims to prevent damage in parking conditions and low-speed maneuvers.
2022 Acura MDX Technology
The MDX 2022 is the first Acura to use the company’s new 12.3-inch digital instrumentation display. It also features an updated True Touchpad Interface (TTI) infotainment system with a faster processor and a wider 12.3-inch display screen.
In the new MDX, Acura will offer the most powerful high-end audio system in its history. The ELS Studio 3D sound system offers 1,000 watts of power and 25 speakers, including six ceiling-mounted speakers and six mid-range carbon fiber woofers.

Even though we haven’t piloted the MDX 2022 yet, we’ve sat in it, and the new cabin is making radical advances in comfort, features, and design. The dashboard is now hand-wrapped in French-stitched leather and trimmed in low glossy open porous wood, adorned with subtle metallic sprinkles. The console has a slightly piano black color, and there is an ornate aluminum speaker cover on the door. The conventional shifters have been replaced with push-button units, and share a TLX three-spoke steering wheel, which is heated and has paddle shifters. Driving settings including Normal, Sport and Individual allow the driver to customize the ride, handling, steering, and powertrain.
An intricate two-screen design comes out, replaced by an extra-wide 12.3-inch unit, which will be the largest in the brand’s lineup. This is not a touch screen. Instead, there’s a well-placed touchpad on the console, along with a large wrist pad, the original volume knob, and a standard cordless phone charger. Also standard will be Acura’s first digital meter cluster, which will have two configurations, a panoramic sunroof, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities, and we’re counting six USB ports, including two in the third row.
The new MDX 16-way power-adjustable sports seat has a long underside for extra thigh support and ample support. They are also heated, cooled, and offer nine massage arrangements. An optional 25-speaker premium audio system places six speakers on the headrests and six carbon fiber woofers throughout the cab. LED ambient lighting offers 27 different lighting schemes.
We still don’t have the specs, but Acura says improved legroom overall, while some rear-seat headroom has been sacrificed for a standard sunroof. There is seating for seven people. The second-row slides split 40/20/40 and the middle section can be removed, leaving two captain seats and improving access to the third row, which is still best for kids.
AcuraWatch, the brand’s driver assistance package, will be standard and include adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking.

A Big Upgrade For Acura’s Biggest Offerings
Acura made the MDX Prototype a lower, wider, and longer, tried, and true design technique to produce a new version of the preferred model. The wheelbase is 3 inches longer than the previous model. The MDX is stiffer than ever due to new reinforcement to the body and chassis. All models receive standard double-wishbone suspension up front, a first for the MDX.

Those looking for an MDX to follow the NSX’s electric footsteps should look elsewhere. Vice President and Acura Brand Officer Jon Ikeda told us, “There’s got to be an electrification strategy coming up with this brand. We’re setting the tone as a performance brand right now. But you know, we’re making the NSX a hybrid. So we’re learning a lot about this. what we can do with electricity. “
From a purely cosmetic point of view, this prototype has many accents which we really like. The brake calipers are painted ivory to match the interior, and the 21-inch wheels have gorgeous copper accents for a deeper feel. The MDX prototype is one of the most restrained grids and (arguably) one of the most attractive grids on the market, the Pentagon Diamond, which holds the entire Acura lineup together. The Japanese automaker has also upgraded its lighting design with the MDX Prototype, which features four-element JewelEye LED headlamps and new LED taillights with Acura’s Chicane motifs.
It also has a large exhaust liner that is formed around the exhaust tip rather than a gaping hole with a small pipe poking out. The powered trunk opens to reveal large pieces of satin chrome trim, a material that can be found all over the exterior of the MDX prototype. This includes a unique piece that highlights the elongated dash-to-axle ratio, which is 6 inches longer than the previous model according to Acura.
We asked Acura if there were any plans to keep up with industry trends by adding a swooping, coupe-like roofline variant to the lineup, the Acura niche joined from the very beginning when bringing the now-defunct ZDX to the world. As of now, it doesn’t seem like there are any plans to introduce such a model to the lineup, but Jon Ikeda said Acura has the ability to do things this way once again, telling us, “I’m sure if we were willing to come up with a derivative, we could make something that very stylish and sporty. “
What To Expect From The Next MDX
We also spoke with Acura Vice President and Business Unit Head Art St. Cyr about what features specifically will appear in the different trims of the production version of MDX. In short, we’ll have to wait and see. However, it also gave us some solid clues as to which MDX Prototype features will appear on different production models. So, those kinds of things are meant to be telegraphed with this prototype. guess, then, that the Type-S model will be the receiver of the big four-pot Brembo and the luxury-oriented model will receive the most elaborate version of the heated, ventilated, massage seat.
2022 Acura MDX Release Date
Although there is no word on pricing yet, we hope that the information will come early next year ahead of the production MDX market launch. The MDX prototype shows that Acura wants to remain relevant in one of the most competitive market segments.
With a truly sporty offering and a truly world-class interior, perhaps something will be needed to make that happen when the production version of the Acura MDX 2022 arrives next spring, followed by the MDX Type-S next summer.
