2022 Audi A7 facelift– Another Audi product that is starting to show its age, especially the one parked beside the brand’s newest lineup, is the large-sized Q7 SUV. To address this, Audi is working on a major facelift, due to be launched in 2020. This new model will feature a revised face with new headlights and grille, as well as an improved rear. It will likely borrow the dual screen infotainment setup from the Q8 and some of the new autonomous driving technology we saw in Audi’s newest product.
But until now there is no information about the Audi A7 Facelift 2022, for comparison we will share information on the Audi A7 2021 as initial information for you.
The Audi A7 2021 blurs the beautiful lines between sedan and hatchback with its sleek profile and refined nature. Its standard turbocharged V-6 powertrain and all-wheel drive provide four seasons of fast acceleration and traction. Audi also indulges passengers with quiet cabin space that offers cutting-edge technology and countless luxuries. While most of this content is also found on the A6 sedan, the A7’s fastback profile and extra cargo space make it more visually distinct and more practical. Like the A6, the fastback A7 offers a sophisticated way of driving and is able to please the driver when the road ahead starts to turn. The A7 2021 has an unintuitive infotainment system and costs more than the A6, but apart from that, it’s a handsome machine that promotes Audi’s high-end image.
What’s New for 2021?
The big news for the A7 2021 is the addition of a plug-in hybrid model. The hybrid powertrain consists of four turbocharged cylinders and an electric motor combined to produce 362 horsepower. Thanks to the 14.4 kWh battery pack, the A7 PHEV will be able to run electric-only vehicles, but Audi has yet to release details about the car’s range. Apart from the new PHEV model, Audi has made the smallest changes to the A7 2021 lineup. A set of 20-inch wheels with all-season tires is now standard on the base model. In addition, its optional Convenience package adds even more content such as a top view camera system. Mid-range Premium Plus now comes standard with adaptive cruise control and lane maintenance assistance. The top Prestige model gets a new optional Sport package that includes 21-inch wheels on summer tires and an adaptive steel suspension.
We would recommend the Premium Plus model, which has the more desirable standard features and options available than the basic trim level. Plus comes standard with adaptive cruise control, Audi virtual cockpit (12.3-inch digital meter cluster), headlamps with cooler Matrix design accents and automatic headlights, futuristic looking rear light animation, sophisticated Bang & Olufsen sound system, and lane guard assistance. In addition, the Premium Plus features standard luxuries such as heated front seats, leather seats, power-operated hatchback and panoramic sunroof. We’ll raise the A7’s luxury level a little more by opting for the Driver and Executive package. This combination is accentuated by the addition of four-zone climate control, heated rear seats and ventilated front seats.
Engine, Transmission and Performance
The standard A7 powertrain is a turbocharged V-6 that produces 335 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. The power is channeled to the all-wheel drive of the Audi Quattro via a seven-speed automatic transmission. The A7’s standard V-6 powertrain also incorporates a 48 volt hybrid assist system which minimizes turbo lag and assists stop / start operation. During day-to-day driving, we appreciated Audi’s extremely fast speed. The advanced all-wheel drive system provides excellent traction in wet and dry conditions.
The automatic transmission intelligently reacts to throttle input which is relaxed and energetic. If you’re looking for something with electric-only driving capabilities, you should upgrade to the new plug-in hybrid model, which produces 362 horsepower from a combination of an onboard 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder electric motor. We haven’t had the chance to test this model yet, but we’ve spent a lot of time with the standard V-6. Audi has masterfully blended luxury and agility on the A7. The enthusiastic response and smooth ride quality were immediately evident when we got behind the wheel. Despite the optional 21-inch wheels of our test car, the expected explosion from the harsh impact was almost unknown. The supple suspension also manages to limit body movement and maximize smoothness. Linear steering response, with adjustable weight available in different drive modes, but never conveys what the front wheels are doing. The two A7 models we tested had impressive braking force, with an emergency braking distance of 157 feet and 163 feet.
Real-World Fuel Economy and MPG
The EPA has yet to release an estimate for the A7 PHEV 2021, but the fuel economy of the standard V-6 powertrain. These figures are in line with competitors such as the BMW 540i xDrive (21 mpg city and 29 highway) and the Mercedes-Benz CLS450 4Matic (23 city and 30 motorways). The V-6 powered Audi we tested greatly outperformed road ratings, delivering an impressive 36 mpg on our 200 mile fuel-efficient route. The CLS also returned 36 mpg during our road tests, but Bimmer hit just 31 mpg.
Interior, Comfort and Cargo
The interior of the A7 is a perfect fit and finish and is accentuated by attractive materials and sturdy switchgear. Each cabin has ambient interior lighting, heated front seats, leather seating surfaces, panoramic sunroof, three-zone climate control and more. However, they are controlled only via the touch screen, which is annoying. The A7 also provides a satisfying driving position which is complemented by excellent outside visibility. Rear seat passengers receive climate control, a power point for charging the device, and even a heated seat, all of which are optional. While the rear seat can comfortably accommodate two adults, the three full-size frames will be narrow. Under the useful power-operated liftback of the A7, we tuck seven carry-on bags behind its folding rear seat. The car also contains 20 luggage bags with the seats folded flat. Likewise, we managed to fit golf bags and strollers in the cargo area. Unfortunately, the A7’s interior has just barely enough interior cubby space. The front door pocket is narrow, and the center console has a small trash can.
Infotainment and Connectivity
Each A7 features a dazzling infotainment system with dual touch screens integrated seamlessly into the dashboard and center console. The large icons are easy to find and the haptic feedback is satisfying, but the setup is undeniably distracting as it often requires drivers to take their eyes off the road. Standard content includes Apple CarPlay / Android Auto integration and mobile Wi-Fi hotspot. The preferred options are two premium Bang & Olufsen powerful sound systems and wireless smartphone charging.
Safety Features and Driver Assistance
A7 2021 has not been hit-tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or fully evaluated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). However, it does offer advanced driver assistance equipment that includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go technology and night vision. Key security features include:

- Lane alerts and lane maintenance assistance are available
- Warranty and Maintenance Protection
Audi provides warranty coverage that is in line with the plans of BMW and Mercedes-Benz. While each A7 includes one free scheduled service visit, owners can extend that coverage by paying extra for Audi Care, which includes the next four services after the first free visit.
