Nissan’s iconic Z car is all-new for 2023. The 2023 Nissan Z takes inspiration from the old model but with updated technology and much-needed interior modernization.. The recent Z goes on sale in the summer of 2022 as a hardtop coupe, but a convertible could follow later.

Even though its base price is higher than the outgoing 370Z, the new Z is still a bargain compared to major rivals like the Supra and Audi TT. The Z is upping the ante with more luxury features and a more desirable style to justify its higher price tag. We’ll go with the mid-range Z Performance trim, which adds a sportier suspension tune, a limited-slip differential, upgraded brakes, 19-inch wheels with summer tires, and power-adjustable seats with suede upholstery.

2023 Nissan Engine and Performance

Like its ruthless sibling, the Nissan GT-R, the Z is powered by a twin-turbocharged V-6. But, instead of the flame-throwing 3.8-liter 565-hp that sits under the GT-R’s hood, the Z gets a 400-hp 3.0-liter engine from the Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 paired to a six-speed manual. Or a nine-speed automatic. While all-wheel drive is available on the Infiniti, Nissan is sticking with rear-wheel purpose exclusively for the Z. Six turbos give the Z plenty of power, and we expect it to hit 60 mph in just 4.2 seconds. 2023 Nissan Z 0-60

Nissan has not provided an acceleration number. We believe it will be under 4 seconds from 0-60 mph, and it could be as low as 3.5 seconds. It uses the same 400-horsepower VR30DDTT V6 engine in the Infiniti Q50 Red Sport 400 four-door sports sedan that reaches 60 mph in less than 4.5 seconds.

The weight of the Nissan Z hasn’t been announced yet. Still, it should be hundreds of pounds lighter, as the Z is a shorter two-passenger car and has benefited from engineering advancements since the aging Infiniti Q50 launched in 2014. Finally, the competitor to match or beat will be the Toyota Supra, which is great for a 3.8-second run to 60 mph.

400 horsepower twin-turbocharged

Cargo space remains a mystery, but we don’t expect the Z to be Costco’s champion; we stuffed three carry-on luggage in the old 370Z, which should be plenty for most sports car buyers.

Six-speaker stereo is standard, but audiophiles can upgrade to an optional premium audio setup engineered by Bose; an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot is also available.
