2023 Silverado HD Redesign– The Chevrolet Silverado HD will receive minor changes and redesign for the 2023 model year. Notably, the heavy-duty truck line was initially set to receive a significant refresh for 2023 – including a new front and rear design, a new interior, along with a potential powertrain update – however, the product cycle is now lagging by model year due to complications caused by COVID -19 and the shortage of superconducting chips. Apart from that, the fourth-generation Silverado HD model performs very well in the market.
For the 2019 model year, the Chevrolet Silverado underwent a complete redesign, marking its fourth generation. In 2022, this lightweight pickup will undergo both an interior and exterior refresh. With its freshness just a year old, we expect nothing to change in the 2023 Silverado 1500, except for the upcoming Silverado EV model. See Also: 2023 Chevy Colorado ZR2.
On the outside, the 2022 Silverado refresh features a new fascia to give it a bolder look. The pickup rearrangement remains essentially the same in this year’s model. We expect much of the same in 2023, but the EV model will likely carry exclusive styling cues.
Inside, the Silverado is very basic, and a refresh in 2022 that brings a 13.4-inch touchscreen to the LT and higher trims doesn’t do much to address this. Chevy has also added an electronic gearshift available on the console to replace the old column shifter. Otherwise, the cabin is relatively unchanged, and we expect the same in the Silverado 2023, except for the exclusive design expected in the Silverado EV.
Under the hood, the current Silverado 1500 comes standard with a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 310 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque and is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Up one notch is the 5.3-liter V8 with 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. The highlight is the 6.2-liter V8 with 420 hp and 460 lb-ft torque. Both V8 engines are mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. We hope this powertrain doesn’t change in the Silverado 1500 2023.
There are few details about the Silverado EV 2023’s powertrain, but General Motors’ battery arm confirms a 400-mile driving range and four-wheel steering.
The most extensive additions to the Silverado 2022 refresh are standard automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, active lane control, automatic high beam, and a rearview camera. We expect this to remain standard in the 2023 model. The current Silverado doesn’t have an IIHS safety rating yet, but the 2021 model doesn’t perform well due to a small “Marginal” overlap score on the passenger side and “Poor” headlights. We expect this rating to remain in the 2023 model.
2023 Silverado HD Interior
The Silverado HD prototype has a camouflaged interior, almost certainly hiding the drastically upgraded dashboard version that was just revealed on the 2023 Silverado HD. There are likely two interior strategies, with the higher-spec HD truck getting a redesigned dashboard and the lower end trim possibly bringing contemporary interiors.
2023 Silverado HD Duramax
According to insider reports, GM is preparing something special for the next Silverado HD 2023 and Sierra HD 2023 pickup trucks. We’ve seen some testing of the disguised prototype in and around Colorado and across the country, but we do not indicate what will power this new beast. We have an unofficial report that offers a glimpse into GM’s new turbo-diesel Duramax power.
This unofficial report says that the next-generation Duramax V8 turbo-diesel 6.6 liters will produce 505 horsepower and 1,085 lb-ft of torque.
Platforms
The Silverado Heavy Duty 2023 will continue to use a more capable version of the GM T1 platform, supporting the 2021 Sierra 1500 and Sierra HD, 2021 Yukon, and other full-size GM trucks and SUVs.
Production of the Silverado HD 2023 is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2022.
2023 Silverado HD Release Date
According to GM Authority, the Chevy Silverado HD 2023 will launch on July 18, 2022. Order books for the 2023 Silverado HD will open from May 5, 2022. Production of the Chevy Silverado HD takes place at the GM Flint plant in Flint, Michigan, and, more recently, at the GM Oshawa plant in Canada.
Of course, we should ignore this information by acknowledging that the dates stated above may change in the future, especially when considering the highly volatile nature of today’s operating environment.
